First off, the Clay Soldiers mod must be installed. Then, the crafting recipe for soldiers is one Soulsand block above one Clay block. This creates four gray soldiers. When placed, gray soldiers will not attack other soldiers unless attacked. To make a colored soldier, place the crafted clay soldier in the crafting grid below the desired color dye. Clay soldiers attack other soldiers of different colors, but will never attack any other mob (a mob is something like the player, sheep, cows, creepers, etc.).
