I used the USB drive to upload directly from my camera's flashcard. It was very easy to do, but I had two different Sony Camera's so that might have made it easier. I also had something that allowed the flashcard / memory card to be inserted in one end and a USB input at the other. In any case the PS3 is designed to allow for storing of your Pictures and Videos using the USB connection to upload to your harddrive. With some camera's you can use your controller cable to complete the upload to your harddrive. Once loaded they show appear under the film or photo section of the PS3
