This is an Adobe Acrobat error that may appear when viewing pdf files using the web browser plug in. Assuming you are using Windows, simply right click on the link pointing to the pdf document and select "save link as" (or whatever your browser's context menu says).
Alternatively you can disable the "fast web view" altogether in Acrobat Reader: Edit -> Preferences -> internet -> uncheck "Allow fast web view"
You can download a trial version of Office (which includes Word) from the Microsoft website. If you just need to view a Word document, Windows comes with the Wordpad application which should allow you to view word documents.
