How do you get to the underworld in Final Fantasy 4?

You can only cross it when the dwarves upgrade the hull to withstand the heat. It is done as part of the story, you need to do the encounter with Golbez first at the dwarven castle.

You will need to go to see Cid in the infirmary at the Dwarven castle. He will upgrade the Falcon with Mithril plating, so that it may cross the magma.

When Kain joins back in he will give you a magma stone .Go to a well in the middle of a town and put this stone in the well. Hope this helps.
