It could be in a number of places. Underneath the center console. Beneath the FM Stereo. Also check under the carpeting under the driver's and passenger's seats.
"If you want to replace it, bad idea, that will be ALOT more costly. I had my original SRS module sent in for a reset. I just googled a company called www.myairbags.com and they reset mine for $55 and shipped it back to me free of charge, I hooked it up and it works like brand new! and I saved about $560.

I believe that the airbag light staying on, is an indication that there is a problem in the airbag system. I'd get it to a mechanic to have it looked at if I were you.FriPilot
Driver's airbag module - on steering wheel. Passenger airbag module - dashboard, right side. Airbag control module - under center console in front of the gear shifter. Please remove the battery connections and wait AT LEAST 30 minutes before touching anything.
the transmission does not have a govener, the engine govener is controlled by the control module and needs a program to recalibrate
what is the firing order for a 97 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2
When dealing with any part of the airbag system my recommendation is to take the vehicle to the dealership where a train technician can install the new airbag and reset the system. This way if you install the new airbag and the system is not reset. It may malfunction in the event of a collision or it may charge the new airbag and blowup when connected.
