Double click on the mixdown file then go to File - Save As and slect which ever format you want on Save As Type for eq.Windows PCM.wav,mp3.wma etc and then click on save after choosing the location.

A wave file itself cannot crash, as it is not a program. A corrupted wave file might crash Cool Edit, though. Try opening it in another program, such as Audacity or Wavelab.
