How do you use color on pictochat?

There is no color available on PictoChat for the origninal DS and the DS Lite. On the Nintendo DSi, you can use colors by pressing the pen icon on the left of the screen once it is already selected. It will then flash pink, letting you to use rainbow color pen.

Have a friend with a DS come within 15 or so feet of you, then turn on your DS and tell your friend to do the same. When you go past the screen that tells you to touch the screen to continue, you'll notice that the Pictochat icon is on the left in the middle of the screen. Tap it with your stylus or finger and have your friend do the same. Choose any room, as it makes no difference as to which room you pick, and tell your friend to pick the same room. Now, either directly draw on the screen or use the keyboard provided to you and press the up arrow on the right side of the screen or the Start button to send.

Pictochat Controls:
A: Type selected character on your current message
B: Delete the most recently typed character on your current message
X: Nothing, I'm sure
Y: Ditto
Control Pad: Move cursor on keyboard
Start: Post current message
Select: Copy message at the bottom of the top screen to the bottom screen
L: Scrolls messages on top screen up
R: Scrolls messages on top screen down
Top Screen: Shows recently posted messages by all users in the chat room, can be scrolled up and down with L and R
Bottom Screen: Shows the message or picture you are working on

All you have to do is, go into pictochat, tap the pencil icon, it should start changing colors, then write and it should come out in rainbow!

you can't unfortunately. however, you can change the lines in the background by changing your favourite colour setting. hope this helps :)
