To use multiplayer in minecraft, it depends on whether you have the free version, or the full (premium) version. I don't think you can do it on the free version (I am not sure, as I myself have the full version), but, to do multiplayer on the full version, you must click 'Multiplayer', and then you must type in the IP address of a server, on which you are whitelisted.

IP address-the name of a server that allows people to access it (example: 255:78:61:5)

server-an online Minecraft world which enables Multilpayer, run from one person's computer

whitelisted-you must be whitelisted (on a special users list) to access some servers. Some servers don't use whitelisting, although most do.
