Pins 2, 3 and 7 are used for communication on your RS232 ports. While other pins are used, most are just for protocol (RTS, CTS, and other pins for more advanced communication)

It uses the standard 48 Pin dock connector.

Most of modern motherboads use 24 pin power connector (ATX 2.x). Older motherboards use different type that uses only 20 pin connector. ATX 2.x is usually backward compatible with older 20 pin connector.

Not all do. A ground terminal is a safety feature. Yes, it is much safer when we use the laptop.
