Yes, it is obvious that Fantage has anime/manga/Nintendo/kawaii/chibi-looking avatars. These days, kids are exposed to East Asian modern pop culture - from Gangnam Style and other K-Pop Music to Vocaloid music and cosplay parties through anime and manga. Sometimes, kids actually tend to find the anime/manga/kawaii/chibi/Nintendo-like characters as "cute" (indeed, "kawaii" means actually "cute" in Japanese). Despite major association of anime/manga with violence, blood/gore and sexual themes, there are some titles that are actually suitable for kids, or designed for them, or are popular amongst them (as well in Japan).

But it has nothing to do with otaku culture - in fact, otakus are ridiculous.
