Yes, level 80 is the new level limit for World of Warcraft, but you will need to have both expansion packs to get there. If you have a level 56 already and WotLK expansion pack you can get a Death Knight (new hero class) and depending on how often and long you play, you can get to 80 in about 3 months (I did it in 2 but I ignored my other characters to do so.) I say DK because they start at 56 - you don't have to work up to 56, and a properly equipped DK can self-heal or tank - a full single spec will make you more efficient in certain fights, but less in others; a blend can be sure that you never drop major dps because some mob is immune to your main attacks. Blood/Frost used to fantastic for multi-mob dps and survivability; since the latest patch you no longer get the same powers so that blend isn't as strong as it used to be.
