In Poptropica, the mini quests are 2 different things. The first kind of mini quest is a smaller version of an island, that is only around for a certain time. For example, the Haunted House quest. Its just a quest to find one specific thing. You usually get credits, not a medallion. Another type of mini quest can be found when you are exploring an actual island. They are usually mini games, where one of the characters says if you can help me, Ill tell you where a secret entrance is, or something like that. An example of one is on Nabooti Island, in the Blue Falls area. Here, you have to help a farmer get his chicken, food, and fox across, and he shows you a cave entrance. Hope this helps!
