The major disadvantage is think of in whislteblowing is that one may have a hard time finding work in the field in the future. Especially, if it is with a company that is doing shady business.

The advantage is that it stops people/companies from committing fraudulent acts. There are protections set in place to help out whistleblowers. These protections were set up to protect those whom report wrongdoing. If it were not for whistleblowers many financial scams would have gone unnoticed. The potential for increased loss of money for many goes up as times goes on.
