The ruins are called Machu Picchu, the most famous of all the Inca ruins. These ruins were discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911 in the Andes Mountains of south-central Peru.

Machu Picchu is an ancient Incan citadel located in the Andes Mountains of Peru. It was discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham. The site was hidden and well-preserved due to its remote location and being overgrown by the surrounding jungle, contributing to its late discovery.
Though Hiram Bingham (also known as Hiram Bingham III) accomplished much in his life as a teacher at Yale, United States Senator, and even a treasure hunter, he is best known for his exploration, discovery and ultimate public revealing of the Incan City of Machu Piccu. Following his discovery, the South American locality became a popular tourist attraction.
