Like the octopus, the squid use ink and a camouflage to blind the enemy predator and blend into its surroundings. Some squids (like the Humboldt squid) use hook on their sucker cups to defend it's self.
Most parts of the squid can be eaten, including the tentacles, the body (this is sometimes sliced into rings), and even the ink.
they dont come to shallow parts of the ocean
A squid's beak doesn't have any teeth at all, in fact they are used to pry open shellfish and so on. They can drill through hard shells of prey. It is powerful enough to break human bone.
A) because the squid has evolved that way B) because it is held in place, and used with powerful muscles in the squids 'head'
No squid have ever had bones. However squid are related to cuttlefish, nautilus, ammonites and belemnites all of which have shell like parts.
The scars on a Sperm whale are caused by the suckers of giant squid. Each sucker has a sharp serrated ring of chitin which helps the squid attach itself to its prey. They will battle to survive the jaws of the sperm whale, by attaching themselves to the sperm whales skin, which causes circular tears and scratches.
The disks on the arms of an octopus are called suckers. A breast feeding baby is a sucker A leach is a sucker. Someone drinking through a straw is a sucker A plastic cup used to stick something to a wall is a sucker.
Essentially. Squid fall under the category of cephalopods. The greek root cephalo means head, and the greek root pod means foot. Naturally, squid have many more body parts and this is just a simplified classification.
sucker
You can eat everything but the beak and the vestigial shell that gives the body some rigidity. When a squid is prepared, the gut is usually stripped out and the mantle is sliced into rings. Small squid are sometimes found pickled whole. Mighty tasty.
