PAK really isn't on DS games, It's on the DS menu. On a normal DS or DS lite, the bottom item on the menu (Excluding the settings button) should say "Game PAK not inserted" or something like that. It basically means there is no game boy game inserted. Game PAK really is a Game boy cartridge.

To transfer Pokemon, your ds game should be in the ds, and the gb game in the gb cartridge. (Make sure you have transferring Pokemon in your party.) Starting up your ds game you should see an option to migrate Pokemon to your game. The Pokemon will migrate to Pal Park, where you have to catch them. ;) *Once you migrate, they cannot go back.*
