If your GameCube controller isn't connecting to the adapter, first check that the adapter is properly plugged into the console and powered on. Ensure the controller is securely connected to the adapter and try using a different controller if possible to rule out hardware issues. Additionally, restart the console and update any necessary firmware for the adapter if applicable. If the problem persists, consult the adapter's manual for troubleshooting steps or consider reaching out to customer support.
No, learning to play on the pro controller wont be that much different
Through a usb port. I don't think most wired 360 controllers connect directly to a PC or 360(?) but they all come with an adapter for both 360 allowing it to be used via USB which will also allow it to be used on PC games that support controllers, or with software that forces a game that doesn't allow use of a controller to use the controller with a certain setup. Not sure about the adapter but I only use USB controllers and all my 360 controllers have the adapter.
