I assume you dad could buy anything he wants, but he might be like me and does not like to shop. So if you buy him something he needs, if not the item that matters its the time you save him and he gets to spend time with you instead doing something that he really does not like to do like shop.

I have a friend had tons of photos of the Grand Canyon. he wanted create digital walking tour of the grand canyon but he never had the time So I offered as a gift to spend a weekend scanning photos. I not sure he thought it was a great gift or not. Gift of time is a gift you need to have a expiration date. Turned out my friend never use the gift. That was years ago and now what he wanted to do anyone can do better with Google Earth.
