Sonic weapons, or sonic crowd control devices, began to be developed in the 1970s and 1980s. The first notable example is the Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD), which was patented in 2005. However, the concept of using sound as a weapon dates back much further, with various forms of acoustic devices being explored for military and crowd control purposes over the years.
Sonic doesn't use weapons, except in Sonic and the Black Knight. He only uses a sword. That's about it.
