A punch made directly at an opponent is typically referred to as a "straight punch." This type of punch travels in a straight line from the fighter’s guard position to the target, maximizing speed and power. It is often executed using the lead hand, such as a jab, or the rear hand, like a cross. Proper technique and body mechanics are essential for effectiveness and to minimize the risk of injury.

A special attack is an attack where your Pokemon doesn't directly touch the opponent (like tackle, slam, mega punch and chomp). Moves like surf, confusion, psychic and hydro pump are special moves because your Pokemon didnt directly touch the opponent. There are no exeptions that I know of.

The type of quick punch used to gauge distance from an opponent is often referred to as a "flicker jab" or "measuring jab." This punch is typically thrown quickly and lightly to assess the range and timing of the opponent without committing to a full attack. It helps a fighter determine their reach and the opponent's distance, allowing for better positioning in the fight.
