All languages change, and English changes due to a multitude of influences, for instance the large number of words of Indian origin which came into the language during the period of the British Raj (examples: curry, bungalow, verandah). In modern times there have been a huge number of new words "made up" or coined in the scientific arena, and popular youth culture changes so rapidly that new words appear all the time. Who remembers "beatniks" or "mods" from the 60s and 70s? Someone at that time would have no idea what a "rapper" was unless it was something one found around a chocolate (wrapper).
