How do you change sand in Jacuzzi filter?

1st unplug the filter, open the outlet or drain valve and purge the water out of the filter area while the water is draing loosen the clamps to the pipes or hoses that go too and from the filter. Once the water stops draining remove the hoses or pipes from the filter. 2nd remove the nuts from the top of the round or oval filter section there should be a mim of 12 pull the head off there is a rubber gasket between the head and the body of the filter becareful not to rip it. 3nd remove the sand from the body of filter place the sand on a tarp or buckets so you know how much new sand to put back in the filter. Once you know how much sand it will take to put back in the filter discard the old sand. 4th To put the new sand back in the filter you will need a cover plate I do not remember if it comes with the Jacuzzi filter or you have to purchase it. you need this little device to put the new sand back in. Then reassemble.

turn you multi port valve to back wash before starting filtration.

If your pump is throwing sand back into the pool from the filter, you more than likely have a cracked or broken lateral (finger). To check, remove all sand from you filter and pull the center pipe and laterals out of the tank and check all pieces to make sure there are no cracks. If a crack is found, replacements can be purchased from you local pool store.

You did not cover the stand pipe at the top of the filter. Try backwashing a few times and monitor the amount of sand returning to the pool. If there is less coming back you may not have to do much more. If it continues but only slightly diminished then you may have to remove the sand, remove the stand pipe, check the laterals for broken parts, replace if needed, clean the area at the base of the laterals where the stand pipe threads in, install the stand pipe, cover the top opening of the stand pipe with tape or a plug, add water to the tank - to about half full, then add the #20 silica sand - no other grade sand will work. The rest -- you already know how to do.

Turn off the pump. Remove the filter drain plug and allow filter to drain. Remove the filter dome, if your filter doesn�t have a dome you may have to remove the multiport mounted on top of the filter. Using a wet/dry vacuum suck out the old sand and discard, be careful not to damage the laterals at the bottom of the filter. Slowly add new sand and spread around the inside of the filter tank. Put the filter back together. Replace the filter drain plug. Turn on the pump.

ADDINGthis is a acceptable way to change out the sand of your sand filter, just keep in mind that if you have a multiport filter head then you must make sure the lateral assembly, the pipe in the filter, does not get any sand in it. sand in that pipe will add sand to the pool when the filter is turned on. Also you need to make sure that the pipe is centered in the filter before and during the adding of the new sand to the filter. If the pipe is not centered it will not allow the filter head to sit properly down on the filter and can lead to the possibility of leakage from the clamp where the head and filter meat.

So in short you can use the wet/dry vac.

just remember to keep the lateral assembly (pipe) centered and not allow any sand down in the pipe.

For a Jacuzzi Laser Sand Filter SystemFor my Jacuzzi laser sand filter system I use the following method: remove the divert4er and entire standpipe assembly from the tank. The upper parts may come out seperately, if so, grasp the lower standpipe and remove from the tank. You are now ready to assemble the lateral flow tubes to the manifold (NOTE: Lateral flow tubes are factory installed in some models; however, follow procedure to insure they are hand tight in manifold). Grasp standpipe/manifold assembly and lower into tank opening. Hold one of the lateral flow tubes in your other hand, lower into tank opening and screw the tube into one of the threaded openings in the manifold. Repeat this until all 8 lateral flow tubes are installed. Be sure they are all hand tight. Lower assembly into tank and press down to insure that the manifold is securely seated and centered at bottom of the tank. (some tanks might come preassembled (hopefully)). Next, remove the diverter and place the standpipe cover on the filter basket standpipe to prevent the entrance of sand. Fill the tank appr9oximately 1/2 full of water. Now fill the tank with sand (for model L160 use 140 lbs; L190 200 lbs; and L225 250 lbs.) It is recommended that you use #20 silica sand (.40 mm to .55 mm effective size). Be sure the sandpipe assembly remains centered while pouring the sand. Now remove the stand-pipe cover and place the diverter on top of the filter basket. Dial Valve Installation: Carefully remove all sand particles from the mounting location, being especially careful of the bolt holes and O-ring groove. Place valve on tank and rotate until the valve inlet is approximately in line with the pump outlet opening. Install bolts and tighten being careful not to overtighten. Install pressur3e gauge, after wrapping brass threads with 4 drops of Teflon tape. I know it is quite long

* You just take the top off and start scooping the old sand out either with your hand, a large cup or a powerful shop vac. You will never get all of it out, but don't worry about it. It takes a couple hours to get the old out and put the new stuff in. Make sure you backwash the filter throughly after putting the new sand in to get all the dust out. * Contact your local pool company. It isn't that expensive and it's worth letting them do it properly.

Just vacuum it up with a pool vacuum.

A: hummmm, you should not have gotten sand in the pool. If after you vac the pool and you are still getting sand back to the pool then you have a broken lateral that needs to be replaced. You may also have inadvertently poured sand down the standpipe ~ that should have been covered or plugged with a temp cap before you added sand to the filter tank. Just vac that up and you should be OK. k

Swimming pool pumps do not use sand. You may have sand in your filter. The sand has to by removed by hand after taking th etop of the filter off.
