At first glance it doesn't. The Kayak is a boat used by the Inuit. They did not have the same relationship with Canada as Natives in other parts of the country. For example they never signed treaties with the British Crown. They have not played the role of many others in Canada, and are still part of the Canadian colonies.

But the Inuit are recent arrivals to the North. They displaced the Thule about 1000 to 700 years ago. Compared to other Natives who entered Canada as the ice sheet retreated thousands of years ago they are new to this land.

As is most Canadians. With about 40% of Canadians not being born in Canada or having at least one parent in Canada many Canadians are new to the land.

The Kayak is the boat of the most recent Aboriginals, and being a recent arrival is very Canadian.
