On a 3 way valve for inground swimming pool why does pressure decrease when on skimmer only but is ok when both skimmer and bottom position selected?
That piece of Plumbing may have some blockage in it or there may be a restriction of some sort on that line. There may also be a leak in that side of the plumbing. Is there any air coming back to the pool when in this position? If so that is the cause. Fix the suction leak and try again. The 3 way may not be positioning completely over that port. Or it could be that the three way valve does not have the 3rd port open. If the 3 way is prior to the pump, then one port goes to the bottom of the skimmer, the other goes to one of the main drain ports. When your skimmer has reduced "suction" (not pressure) it is then the 3 way may be drawing from both skimmer and main drain at the same time. You only have "pressure" after the pump and at the filter. Before the pump then it is considered suction. Or the 3 way may be plumbed or labeled wrong. Also, in another instance, with the valve in the skimmer position - it could be drawing from more than one skimmer. I suspect the latter answer.
