Yes, but it is quite likely to be an Iver Johnson Champion if it is a single shot. I can only narrow the date of manufacture down to "1890's to 1960's" from the name alone and serial numbers don't mean much on these older trade-name guns. You may be able to get a pretty good idea when it was purchased from family members. I have an old 20 ga. single shot marked Cresent that looks exactly like the Excel. The Standard Catalog of Firearms states that Crescent Fire Arms made the Excel for Montgomery Ward & Co. of Chicago, Ill.
AFAIK, no.
Probably not.
No published data known to answer your question.
If it is a hammerless single shot or double barrel, it was PROBABLY made by Crescent Firearms, 1892-1931.
No. The biggest they make is 12 gauge.
yes
Yes
H&D Folsom Co: large distributor for shotguns made by the Crescent Co. around 1930. Now it gets confusing. Crescent used over 100 different names and manufactures to make guns. American Gun made the H&D Folsom (House Brand) Shotguns under the Crescent contract. Get a hold of "standard catalog of firearms 18th edition" go to page 350 and start reading.
Try to find the contact information for BrazTech. I have a Rossi .223/20ga. shotgun and that is who I had to contact to get info
I have a 12 Ga. sitting here saying springfield manufactured by J. Stevens arms company. If that helps ya any. It's a single shot that's really short with no searial number or model number.
Jack First Gun Parts Reference is a three volume set that costs about $40. If they do not have the part they will make. They are the best for old firearms. http://www.jackfirstgun.com
