To clean a Mossberg 46B .22 caliber rifle, first ensure the firearm is unloaded and visually check the chamber. Use a cleaning rod with a bore brush to remove any fouling from the barrel, followed by a cleaning patch soaked in solvent to wipe down the inside. Clean the action and bolt assembly with a soft cloth and a brush, applying gun oil to moving parts. Finally, reassemble the rifle and wipe down the exterior with a light coat of oil to protect against rust.
Manufactured for Montgomery Wards, this is a Mossberg Model 46B. The 46B was made from 1938-1946. Most date from before 1942 (WW 2, Mossberg was making training rifles for US Navy). The 46B is an excellent rifle.
A Mossberg 22 rifle such as the Plinkster depending on the condition is worth around $150-200.
EXCELLENT target rifles. (BTW, it is spelled Mossberg) There is some collector interest in these.
