Is a j c Higgins model 20 pump with a power PAC screw in choke tubes safe to shoot some one told me the plastic tube in the shell or plastic wad would get stuck?
I purchased a model 20 12ga at an auction from a hunt club about 2 years ago. The club only allows steel shots. Since I have acquired the gun, I have shot probably 400 rounds of lead and steel (modern day) shots without any problem. I have shot with all 3 chokes. I have also used the gun for sporting clays where we shoot 100 rounds at the event...again no problems.

There have been several different models of Sears 12 guage pumps- most common were the model 20's and 30's. The model 21 did have a vent rib and an adjustable choke- was made by Flight King for Sears. In guns, condition drives a MAJOR part of the value. The 27th edition of Gun Traders Guide indicates a selling price of ABOUT $125 for good condition, up to about $225 for new in box. The Sears firearms tended to be for shooting, not collecting, and as a result, their prices are not screamingly high. How does the choke relay work on a 1981 Toyota corona?
the purpose of the choke relay is to supply power to the choke heater ONLY when the engine is running; otherwise if you left the key in the run position but the engine wasn't running the choke would open up even though the engine wasn't warmed up. then when you tried to start it, it wouldn't start because no choke. the control circuit for the relay usually comes off of the back of the alternator triad winding (alternator not turning=engine not running). without looking at a wiring diagram i can't tell you the details of the wiring but that's the idea of it- engine running turns relay on and sends power to choke heater and slowly opens up choke; key on but engine not running means relay is off and no power to choke heater. if the relay is not working, then no power will go to choke heater and the choke will stay on too long (or if ambient temps. are low it may stay on all the time). fast idle will stay on also as it is hooked up to choke linkage.

Yes and No. When TYCO went out of the model railroading business in the 1980's they sold the plastic mold tooling to Model Power, who moved the manufacturing to Yugoslavia and Mehanotechnika made them under the Model Power brand until recently. The Model Power unit has a better drive train. but you'd be better off saving your money for a Bowser or Atlas model of this ALCo Locomotive.

When using an electric choke you will need to take the manual choke unit out and replace with the e.choke unit. Run power and ground to unit and then adjust to ambient tempature. Then test and tune

The "Thing" is called a poly-choke. It is a manually adjusted choke. I think they are still in business. And yes I have shot many deer with slugs fired from my Model 20. If you could give a more detailed discription, or perhaps a photo it would be helpful. It may possibly be the Power-Pac choke. That "Thing" is probably a Compensator , and a Varible Choke, or just one of either.

A choke is an inductor. For typical power frequency, an inductor will slightly change the power factor, but will not actively use much energy. An abnormal voltage spike on a power supply is equivalent to voltage at a much higher frequency. Inductors appear to be a much greater impedance to high frequencies. This allows the choke to pass "normal" power, while at the same time it blocks "abnormal" power.A resistor acts independent of frequency. It will limit the effects of the high frequency voltage spikes by dissipating their energy, but it will do the same for the normal power system frequency. In effect, it is always using power, when the choke only uses what you don't want to get to the power supply.

I got mine when my Grandmother passed on. It had sat in her attic for over 20 years, oiled and in an English soft showgun cover. I took it home, cleaned it up, and it's fired perfectly ever since. Another 15 years later and I'm teaching my kids how to shoot, although this gun is too big for them. But ol' Dad can still hit 'em with his Higgins!
