Extracting things!
The shroud around the extractor rod was developed during World War ! to keep mud out of the revolver action. The shroud also serves to protect the extractor rod from damage that would put the revolver out of action by bending the rod and or damage the crane assembly. The revolver is somewhat delicate, and although more versatile than the automatic in the ammunition it can handle and the repeat capability of firing, it is more subject to physical damage than other pistols.

A light bulb extractor is a tool used to safely remove a light bulb that is stuck or broken in a fixture. It typically consists of a long, slender rod with a gripping mechanism at one end. To use it, the extractor is inserted into the fixture and the gripping mechanism is used to securely grasp the base of the light bulb. By turning the extractor, the bulb can be safely removed without damaging the fixture or risking injury from broken glass.
If it is a connecting rod or bearing--be prepared to put in a new motor
The difficulty of the repair depends on the extent of the damage. It is best to have a certified mechanic make this repair.
Clear the revolver of any ammunition. Use a cleaning rod with a bore brush and powder solvent, scrub the bore and the chambers, let set for a few minutes. Remove brush from rod, replace with patch holder tip, pull clean cotton patches through the bore and chambers. Use patch wet with solvent to wipe the face of the cylinder, and inside the frame where the cylinder fits. Add one drop of oil to the extractor, wipe outside of gun with a clean cloth, lightly oiled. Contact Rossi Customer Service, get an owner's manual. A basic cleaning kit should be available at any gun shop, most sporting goods store, Walmarts, etc.
you cant repair a thrown rod...it has to be replaced...as far as how to replace it, you should be able to get some sort of manual at your local library for removal and installation procedures if not try autozone or search the internet for the repair manual. it is a bit too in depth to be described on wiki answers (^_^)
