I could spend all night copying that section from The Blue Book of Gun Values, but it would be better if you found a copy at your local library and read it there.
The value of any firearm is based on exact make, model and condition. You need a hands-on assessment to give you an actual value- anywhere from $100 to $600 at a guess. There were dozens of different models of Stevens side by side hammerless guns. Sorry-
The '1864' marking you are seeing is part of a patent date, not a model number. Stevens guns generally will have the 1864 patent date through about 1916, and there were a great many models produced on the same basic action that would show that patent date. If you can send us detailed digital pictures, we can help you identify which model you have and go from there. sales@countrygunsmith.net
These older stevens guns are valued at between 65-150 dollars.
Certainly can't determine the caliber with out seeing the guns, unless it is marked on the barrel. Can't determine the value unless we know the models. I can tell you the one marked J. Stevens & Co was made between 1864 and 1886 and the J. Stevens A & T Co gun was made between 1886 and 1916. Stevens made several models of single shot pistols and "pocket rifles" in .22 short, .44 Russian, and almost every caliber between. You might check your library for a copy of Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms or The Standard Catalog of Firearms and see if you can identify your guns.
Year is not available. They made these guns for many decades. Values usually run $150-250 for these models.
Most of all Stevens shot guns give the date on the top of the barrel , mine says it right where it breaks. April 12,1913.
The value and age of a Savage Stevens model 311E will vary depending on the length of the gun and its condition. These guns were made in the 1960s and the 1970s and can sell for up to about $300 in excellent condition.
The "Stevens Model .22/.410" was manufactured 1939 to 1950. It was replaced in 1950 with the Savage Model 24, an identical gun for all practical purposes. Value depends primarily on condition, whether a Stevens or Savage. Guns that are pretty well-beat are worth $100 to $225. Guns in great shape may go for $400 or more. In 2007, most that sell on-line and at gun shows are in the $250 to $375 range. Magnums (instead of .22LR) will bring more. Deluxe models will bring more. Occasionally, the Tenite (plastic) stock will add value.
The Stevens Model 22/410 was made from 1939 to 1950. Value in average condition on-line and at gunshows is in the $250 to $350 range. Condition is highly important in determining price. Guns below $200 are hard to find. Guns above $400 are slow to sell.
No they do not.
That's a model number, not a serial number. These guns did not bear serial numbers. The Stevens 38A was made in the 1940's. Value is typically around $100 in excellent condition. sales@countrygunsmith.net
