Yes Small rodents. mice, rats or squirrels. I would shoot them with Pellets not BBs. Pellets will make a cleaner kill.
Some air pistols are designed to shoot both, but you have to read the owners manual to determine if your pistol can shoot either. It the manual says to just use one or the other then don't ruin the pistol by trying to force it to shoot the wrong projectile.

If you are asking about a BB or pellet gun then try using a drop of Crosman Pellgun oil rubbed into the pellets or BB's. This will lubricate the pellets and the barrel. Don't over do it.
