That's a matter of opinion. The M1 Garand is larger, heavier and shoots a more powerful cartridge than the M1 carbine. They are two completely different rifles.
---------------
Its comparing apples and Oranges, the Garand is a frontline service rifle, the Carbine is intended for non-combat roles, as a personal defence weapon. The Garand has much longer range and a much larger cartridge with better penetration and power at range. The Carbine fires a small pistol cartridge, its a rounded or flat nosed bullet, traveling at a low velocity, at close to medium ranges, the .30 Carbine causes a wound cavity the size of a Basketball, which is of course, instant death in a single hit. The Garand has a pointed higher velocity 30-06 cartridge, it penetrates much farther than the Carbine, and has vastly superior accuracy and range, and its large pointed bullet traveling at 2800 FPS causes a wound cavity the size of a softball, and kills instantly even through body armor. Both are lethal weapons, but they have different purposes, the Carbine is better for close range combat, and the Garand is for longer range combat and for range shots and penetration of material, so neither weapon is better than the other, just like most smallarms are.
For Range the M1Garand is better, but for close quarters and compact-ability the M1/M1A1 Carbine is better. It's the difference between cartridge's M1 garand is in 30-06, and the M1/M1A1 carbine is in 30 carbine, which is designed for close range shooting
Are you referring to the M1 Garand, or the M1 carbine? A Garand can go anywhere from $500 to over $1000, all things dependent. An M1 carbine, generally, you'd be looking in the $400 - $700 range.
M1 Carbine Or M1 Garand

Do a search for Winchester M1 carbine... that will answer your questions.AnswerThe question was about the M1 Garand 30-06, not the .30 carbine. No it was not manufactured, but toward the end of WW2 some M1 rifles were modified in the field with the Browning 20-round box magazine. The American M14 and Italian BM-59 rifles were copies of the Garand action with an external box magazine, scaled down to fire the .308 Winchester (7.62mm NATO). AnswerWinchester produced the M1 Garand during the WWII years only.
The Universal company did make a civilian version of the M1 Carbine. Not all of the Universals use the same parts as the military issue M1 carbine. Please note this is caliber .30 Carbine, and not the 30-06 caliber of the M1 Garand rifle.
They're both very reliable weapons, but the Garand was a frontline battle rifle, and is more hefty, and robust.
The M1 Garand, the M1917 Springiled rifle, and the M1 carbine. [Note: that is incorrect. These were the weapons used in WW2, not WW1]
