We can't tell just from the serial number, and not all S&W revolvers HAD a model number. Earlier revolvers may have a name, such as the Outdoorsman, or a year, such as the 1905. You also want to be certain your revolver IS a Smith & Wesson- they owned the name to the .38 S&W CARTRIDGE, so a non- S&W revolver might still be marked with the caliber of .38 S&W, but be made by another company- there are likely several hundred thousand of these out there. If you revolver has a model number, open the cylinder, and look at the frame under the cylinder crane, it will be stamped there.

Does smith and Wesson have a revolver in stainless steel that shoots short bullets?

For a Smith and Wesson revolver in stainless steel that shoots short bullets, you might need a 380 caliber pistol or a S&W 32 caliber revolver.

When did Smith and Wesson make the 38 short owl head serial number 12747?

No. The Owl's head was the logo of the Iver Johnson company. You MAY see a marking such as .38 S&W CTG- but that marking is the caliber- the revolver shoots a .38 Smith & Wesson cartridge (not a .38 Special). ALL guns that shot THAT cartridge were marked .38 S&W, no matter who made the gun. Smith & Wesson owned the name of the cartridge- they invented it.

Does a revolver leave shells?

yes any gun that shoots bullets has shells. A revolver doesn't 'dump' the shells out, they have to be removed by the shooter before it can be reloaded. It is a bit easier to keep track of the empty brass and avoid leaving evidence behind.

Who made a 32 caliber revolver with the marking of an arrow inside a star and with the date 1941?

Sounds to me like a 1941 production of the tula, Nagant m95, revolver. That specific stamp was used on the nagant revolver from 1928-1943 a seven shot revolver with a gas seal system that allows it to be suppressed. It shoots the 7.62x38R aka 7.62nagant , a very interesting piece none the less.
