There is no H49 Ithaca. There is a M49, made for 17 years, single shot 22 cal worth $75 to $100. There is also a M49R, 22 cal repeater, tube fed. Made for 3 years worth $ 250 and more, sonetime much more.
For whatever help this is on 20 Aug 05, I am holding an Ithaca M49 which shows that the serial number is 9 digits long and stamped into the left front side, parallel to the barrel, and forward of the trigger in the action case. Dan The earliest (around 1962) models of the M49 Saddlegun didn't have serial numbers. The serial numbers were added to the lower left of the receiver in the later 1960s as required by the gun act of 1968. I don't recall the exact dates.
