Rim Fire bullets (Rifles or guns) require a firing pin that strikes the bullet casing and the resulting explosion of gunpowder in the shell fires the bullet out of the barrel. Air guns have NO firing pin. An air valve or piston forces air or C02 into the barrel behind the pellet or BB and this shoots the projectile out of the barrel.
Not much. They both make inexpensive to very expensive air rifles.
You mean Air Rifle. Yes this is fine. Air rifles (Not AirSoft) usually fire between 500 FPS and 1200 FPS
Both are powered by Air or CO2. But a bb gun fires a bb. (.177 caliber) BB guns and Rifles traditionally have smooth bore barrels. Air Rifles (I assume you are asking about Pellet firing air rifles) fire .177 pellets usually through a "rifled bore barrel" giving the pellet more spin and causing it to travel straighter. Pellet Air Rifles come in .177 cal, but also come in 20, 22, 25, 45 and 50 Caliber pellets. They tend to be more powerful than the bb rifles. Crosman, Daisy Beeman and RWS are just a few of the air gun makers who make bb guns and Pellet Air Rifles.
A pellet rifle has no firing pin. It also can not fire a bullet or gunpowder. It can not be made to do so either. The pellet has no charge (casing like a bullet) it just a pellet. However pellet rifles can be just as deadly as a real firearm. They use Air or C02 to project the pellet downrange. Some Pellet rifles are used for hunting, others for target practice. The Major difference between a firearm and an air rifle, is Gunpowder is use in Firearms and Air or C02 is used in Air rifles.
Yes
A regular pistol is a firearm. It uses gunpowder to fire a bullet. An air pistol uses compressed air to fire a pellet with less velocity than a firearm.
PCP ( PerCharged Pneumatic) airguns and rifles work very similar to a C02 gun. The major difference is the driving force. A C02 rifle produced several hundred pounds of pressure that drives the pellet, the normal C02 cylinder is small. The PCP rifle uses C02 or Air and is built with a large high pressure chamber inside the rifle, sometimes it's a large bottle. This chamber is charged to between 2000 and 3000 PSI with a pump or scuba tank. This extreme pressure fires the pellet at a very high velocity and because of the extreme pressure it can fire larger pellets than a normal .177 air rifle. Some PCP's models can fire a 50 Caliber pellet and bring down a deer or moose. In truth this class of air rifles (PCP's) are the same as real rifles
There are air rifles and there are air guns. These are guns that use air or C02 to fire a BB or Pellet, not gunpowder. A DAISY RED RYDER BB Rifle would be considered an "air rifle." There are several companies that make air guns and air rifles. Gamo, Daisy, Crosman, and Umarex are a few of these companies.
There called C02 air rifles or PCP air rifles
It's not so much the website as it is the Class of Airgun/Rifles that are expensive. I am referring to the most powerful and expensive airguns around. These are known as PCP's (PreCharged Pneumatic) air rifles. This class of air rifles are used in the Olympics (Cost around $3.000) or for hunting medium to large game. Most pellet guns or rifles fire a .177, .20 or .22 caliber pellet. PCP's can fire up to 9mm, 45 cal, 357, or 50 cal. These are extremely big boar air rifles. see the links below for the air gun sites
This rifles was made between 1961-69
Air soft fires a 6mm or similar size plastic ball or BB. It may sting if it hits you. But protective clothing will protect you in most cases. The FPS (Foot Per Second) usually runs between 200 FPS to 500 FPS Hence the word Air Soft. Air Soft guns and rifles usually have a red or orange tip to let you know it's an Air Soft air gun. Air Rifles are similar in appearance (NO Red Tip) but that's where the similarity ends. Air rifles have a FPS range of 250 FPS to over 1,500 FPS. They fire a metal projectile usually a BB or Pellet. BB guns / Rifles usually fire up to 600 FPS but Pellet guns / Rifles go way beyond that. Pellet air rifles also come in larger sizes than the .177 caliber BB they also come in .177, .20, .22, .25, 9mm, 357 Cal, 45 cal and 50 caliber. The 50 caliber is about as large as the end of a mans thumb. These are used for medium hunting and some large game hunting. Where the smaller caliber is used for target practice. The range on an Air gun far exceeds the range of an Air Soft rifle. Air soft guns won't kill you but an air rifle is capable of mortal damage. Most people stick with the BB gun or smaller pellet rifle for fun and simple back yard target practice. You will find hunters and professional target shooters prefer the higher end air guns / rifles. A professional Olympic Match grade air rifle will cost you around $2750 for starters.
