There are different ways of defining "rare". There is only ONE revolver that flew with Charles Lindbergh on his solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean, some are rare due to smallest size, largest size, number of cartridges, and some revolvers may be rare due to precious metals or gemstones incorporated into the firearm. However, MY nomination for the rarest based on the number made and it's unique nature would be the revolver patented by Mr. Otto Schneelock. (No- really, not making this up!) There is ONE specimen that was known to exist. The revolver, known as the .307 Triangular, fired bullets whose cross section was triangular rather than round. Illustration of the gun and a photo of one cartridge are in Chas Suydam's US Cartridges and Their Handguns, pg 48, and the gun is also shown in Winant's Firearms Curiosa. You may also find it from the US Patent Office documents- Patent # 134442, 31 December, 1872.
