Charles Daly was a hardwear store owner and was a partner with Shoverling and Gales. His partners figure his name would sound better on a gun than theirs so the Charles Daly gun was born. The store sold guns from many makers, Fox, L.C.Smith, Lefever, JP Sauer and many other German Gun Makers. Most of the Daly name guns were of top quaility. In the 1930 the Name was sold and many outfits have used the Daly name to push some good guns and some not so good guns. What it boils down to is Charles Daly was a part owner of a hardwear store and had the best name of the group to put on a gun. I have purchased several shotguns including the Charles Daly. The easy answer is yes it is worth purchasing; however, be aware that you get what you pay for. I am guessing that your interest is in purchasing a shotgun in the $300 to $400 range. My Charles Daly has so far proven to be reliable with proper maintenance and I would recommend these for the price. It is not the same quality gun as a Browning, Benelli or Beretta, and I suspect does not have the "snob" factor associated with these other manufacturers. What Charles Daly does provide is a simple, lightweight shotgun at an affordable price. In this same price range a person might consider a quality pump action shotgun such as the Benelli Nova or Remington 870. In my case I already owned a Nova and simply wanted an inexpensive semiautomatic for field use.
