On August 11, 1942 Hedy Kiesler Markey (her married name) and George Antheil were granted US Patent 2,292,387 for a frequency-hopping spread-spectrum communication system for torpedo guidance systems.

The US Navy turned down her idea and did not realize it's value until the US naval blockade of Cuba in 1962 when it was first implemented.

To this day, this technology is used in Bluetooth and WI-FI network connections.
