The MOSSBERG Model 46B was made between the years 1938 and 1945.
The Mossberg 46B(b) was only made in 1947-1949, when the model number changed. Excellent target rifle.
Model number changed to 46B(a) after that year
There is a Mossberg 46B, and a 46B(b), but no B46B. The 46B is a bolt action .22 Target rifle, made 1938-1946, the 46B(b) was a later model, made 1947-49. I have a few of these- they are excellent target rifles. There IS a Mossberg Collector's Society, and a good history book of Mossberg guns (More Gun for the Money). Some info on different Mossberg 22's can be found by running a Google search for epix mossberg models.
Manufactured for Montgomery Wards, this is a Mossberg Model 46B. The 46B was made from 1938-1946. Most date from before 1942 (WW 2, Mossberg was making training rifles for US Navy). The 46B is an excellent rifle.
SLLR indicates that the weapon is chambered for Short, Long and Long Rifle rimfire ammunition.
We have virtually all the parts for most Marlin models. sales@countrygunsmith.net
I believe this rifle was made by Mossberg and is the Mossberg 46B. Do a search for photos of the 46B Mossberg to see if it is a match. If so, try Havlin Sales & Service as they may have a replacement trigger guard.
1987

The Wards Western Field Model 46B was made by Mossberg. The model numbers cross-reference show that there were several model numbers for the same rifles depending on who the rifle was manufactured for. The approximate years of manufacture range from 1938 - 1949, depending on configuration of parts, such as sights, trigger guards, stocks etc. This is the best information I have been able to come up with so far. Good luck. John, From California
