The Mossberg 46B(b) was only made in 1947-1949, when the model number changed. Excellent target rifle.
Model number changed to 46B(a) after that year
There is a Mossberg 46B, and a 46B(b), but no B46B. The 46B is a bolt action .22 Target rifle, made 1938-1946, the 46B(b) was a later model, made 1947-49. I have a few of these- they are excellent target rifles. There IS a Mossberg Collector's Society, and a good history book of Mossberg guns (More Gun for the Money). Some info on different Mossberg 22's can be found by running a Google search for epix mossberg models.
The MOSSBERG Model 46B was made between the years 1938 and 1945.
Manufactured for Montgomery Wards, this is a Mossberg Model 46B. The 46B was made from 1938-1946. Most date from before 1942 (WW 2, Mossberg was making training rifles for US Navy). The 46B is an excellent rifle.
I believe this rifle was made by Mossberg and is the Mossberg 46B. Do a search for photos of the 46B Mossberg to see if it is a match. If so, try Havlin Sales & Service as they may have a replacement trigger guard.
Cross reference to a Mossberg Model 46B. The Mossbergs were great target rifles. For some more info on Mossberg 22s, Google search for "Epix Mossberg Models".
Depends on condition and completeness- many are missing some of the sights. For a specimen in very good condition, complete, around $250. Excellent target rifles.
Check the receiver/barrel
The Mossberg 46B is a .22 caliber rifle that was produced in the mid-20th century, specifically from the late 1940s to the early 1960s. While exact production numbers are not well-documented, estimates suggest that several thousand units were manufactured. The rifle was popular among target shooters and small game hunters, contributing to its widespread use during its production run. For precise figures, collectors or firearms historians may refer to specific production records or catalogs from Mossberg.
To clean a Mossberg 46B .22 caliber rifle, first ensure the firearm is unloaded and visually check the chamber. Use a cleaning rod with a bore brush to remove any fouling from the barrel, followed by a cleaning patch soaked in solvent to wipe down the inside. Clean the action and bolt assembly with a soft cloth and a brush, applying gun oil to moving parts. Finally, reassemble the rifle and wipe down the exterior with a light coat of oil to protect against rust.
A Mossberg 22 rifle such as the Plinkster depending on the condition is worth around $150-200.
