Ebay has usually side mounts that fits the Savage 340 , Glenfield side mounts
You need a Weaver Side Mount #2 (which is the base). Weaver also make 1" side mount rings that mount onto this base. That's what I have on my .222 Savage 340.
I have a savage 6400 30-30 with a side mount scope base. The scope was added for my 13th birthday 20 some years ago but Im sure you can still get it done.

A German equatorial mount has the counterweight bar on the opposite side of the telescope, making it easier to balance. It also has a polar scope for precise alignment. A standard equatorial mount has the counterweight bar on the same side as the telescope and may not have a polar scope.

there a a few things you can do you can mount it on the side it takes some getting used too but it works or you can get a special scope made for mounting farther forward there hard to find but they work great
im pretty sure you sight it in like every other scope as long as you keep the parellax in mind. sight in at 75 yards

Check out Ironsighter Co, PO box 85070, Westland, MI 48185. They make a see through scope mount that attaches to the left side of the receiver by the two screws that are already there. No gunsmithing required to attach it.
