hi the JC higgans mmodel 583.20 was a shot gun made and sold by the sears & roebuck company in the 50,s or so how ever they been recalled for there bolts flying out the back in around 1998 ...i still have and use my jc higgans model 583.23 and havnt had a problem with it ....my grand dad past it down to my father and he to me ... but sears is ofering 160 bucks to anyone that takes the bolt out and sends it back i think this offer is still yet good .... just do a search on Google and enter J.C.higgans recall and it should come up!
That's not a serial number- it is a model number. Made prior to 1968. serial numbers not required- and cannot be dated for that reason. Sorry.
