They are not typically dated. Most of them made before 1968 will not have a serial number. Since then, it is required by law (in the US). You can date it by the serial number and referencing several charts in manuals and online. Older ones are usually dated by either proof marks or specific style components.
I can say that the A.H.Fox model b double barrel shotgun was made from 1940-1986.I would contact Savage directly to get a more accurate date of manufacture.
Without a serial number,I can only say that the savage model 340 was made from 1950-1985.If you would include the type of sights, barrel, barrel length, and stock design It would better help me in deciding with in which years your savage model 340 was produced.
The "June 1909" is the Patent Date and you can take the serial number to the savage arms website and they should be able to tell you everything you want to know.

The patent date you are looking at does not indicate a year of manufacture. Stevens made many different models of double-barrel shotgun. Which model do you have? sales@countrygunsmith.net
This model was manufactured from 1912 to 1932. This model is older than that I think. I have a Savage model 1904 that belonged to my grandfather. It is in mint condition and has a manufacturing date clearly stamped on the barrel that says: Pat. Nov. 23, 1905.
NID with serial # 446018 was made in 1927
