Migration to the south does occur. Trumpeter Swans fly from the western coasts of Canada to the nesting grounds in Alaska and then in Autumn fly back (south) to western Canada. European Mute Swans may migrate from their native grounds in Europe to North Africa and the Near East. Whooper Swans have a small migration from Iceland to the British Isles and the Brittany Coasts. Berwick Swans follow a similar route. Because of Global warming some European Swans no longer migrate great distances
