Some of them were "profits and gains". Well the superpowers at that time want to gain credit for war and therefore they primarily split Germany into smaller countries. (Which has similarly done after WW2) The others were some independence movements if I am not wrong.

yes, indeed Germany was the main chracter in ww2. in the treaty of versailes Germany came out loosing a lot and since than wanted to take revenge especially on France. Hitler started to gain forces in Germany and bafore the European counties noticed the Germans were all over them. you can say than ww2 was a result of the German anger and without Germany it wouldn't have started.
