The Ottoman Turkish Empire lasted almost 700 years, so obviously there were many leaders. The first leader was Osman Gazi, crowned in 1299.
Osman I, a leader of the Turkish tribes in Anatolia, founded the Ottoman Empire around 1299. The term “Ottoman” is derived from Osman's name, which was “Uthman” in Arabic. The Ottoman Turks set up a formal government and expanded their territory under the leadership of Osman I, Orhan, Murad I and Bayezid learn more about here madnitv
The name Ottoman Turk refers to a branch of a major Turkic Group called Oghuz Turks. The branch to which Ottomans belong to, is called KAYI. The first ruler of the Ottomans (Osmanli in Turkish) is Osman, whose father was the leader of a tribe belonging to KAYI branch of the oghuz Turks
The Ottoman Turks overran Bulgaria in the 14th century.
Osman Turk is a complicated term I think. In Turkish it is called "Osmanli Turku". This identity is actually an urban-cosmopolite elite identity (Birtek 2007) not refering to rural Turks. I think in international terminology, it seems to refers whole Turkish people of Ottoman Empire. Turks left out of Turkey after 1923 is referred sometimes as Osman Turk. 1926 All-Union census of the Soviet Union has an ethnic section on "Osman Turk" which I think refers to Meskhetian/Ahiksa Turks. 1999 Kyrgz census also has such a section (Osipov and Swerdlow2004). There is a Osmanli Turkleri Society in Krgzystan. Turks in Turkey would only call their ancestors as Osmanli Turkleri. Sometimes urban, sophisticated old woman who knows how to cook special old dishes can be called as "Osmanli".
