Nobody really likes paying taxes. The American colonies were taxed to help pay for Britain's European conflicts. Eventually, it came down to the colonies stating: No Taxation Without Representation. The rest is history, as they say.

The Stamp Act taxed the colonists on documents such as wills, marrige licences, and so on. Baiscly anything that was printed on paper. While the Tea Act of 1773 was a tax on the tea that the merchants would buy from the British to sell in their store. After the British taxed the tea the Sons of Liberty and Samuel Adams dressed up like Mohawk Indians and threw the tea that was on the British ship into the harbor. This was called the Boston Tea Party. Then the Intolerable Acts was not a tax but an order to the colonists stating that no citizen to the king was allowed to settle west of the Appliation Moutains so that the settlers wouldn't have conflicts with the native Americans.
The colonists were required to pay for a stamp when they bought paper products, and the colonists felt that it violated their rights. So they published a series of resolutions stating that the stamp act violated their rights.
