Italy was occupied by the USA and Britain.
Japan was occupied by the USA.
The USSR brought down an 'Iron Curtain' across Europe , to try and coerce everyone/nation to go communist, so that Moscow(USSR) could control all.
The Iron Curtain was a potical line separating Germany into two halves, East (Communist) and West (Democratic/Capitalist). Other countries east of the Iron Curtain were Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Roumania , Bulgaria and part of Austria. Countries west of the Iron curtain were West Germany, France , Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal , UK and Republic of Ireland (Eire), Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland. Because of a political impasse, it was difficult to cross the Iron Curtain in any direction.
All this occurred between 1945 and 1948.
