No, on 3 July 1793 he was removed from his mother and given into the care of Antoine Simon, a cobbler for retraining as a simple French citizen. His treatment was less then satisfactory and bordered on torture. He was seen by his sister Marie-Threse-Charlotte on 7 October 1793. Robespierre visited his sister on 11 May of 1794 but Louis remained in solitary confinement for at least the first half of 1794 when he was placed under the care of a creole and a man named Gomin.

By 1795 he was reported as quite ill and on 8 June he was dead at the age of 10.
