He was also a leader of the Jacobian society. During the revolution, Robespierre started the Reign of Terror and frightened the French people with death. Soon after he was tried for treason and sentenced to death by guillotine. Before the could execute him however, he tried to end his own life by shooting himself in the head. He failed and instead shot his jaw off. The next day they killed him.
