He was a French explorer in Rouen, France in 1643, but he settled in Canada at 23 years old. He followed the Ohio and Mississippi rivers to the sea in 1682. Two years later a expedition was fitted to establish a French settlement on the Gulf of Mexico, but he spent two years in fruitless trips, was very harsh with his followers, and was assassinated in 1687.
